Garden Pots & Planters
Our garden planters cover handmade terracotta, stone, glazed, polystone, fibreclay and metal, in troughs, pots, bowls and window boxes sized from a single herb to a mature shrub. Each material behaves differently outdoors, and the right choice usually comes down to where the planter will stand.

About Our Garden Plant Pots
Handmade terracotta is porous, so moisture passes out through the walls as well as the base. That suits lavender, rosemary and anything that resents sitting wet, and it is why a terracotta pot in full sun needs watching in July. Aged finishes weather further with each winter rather than looking tired. Stone and stone-effect planters carry real weight, which makes them the sensible choice on an exposed terrace where a lighter pot would need anchoring.
Polystone and fibreclay are the answer where weight is the constraint: a roof terrace with a load limit, a balcony, or anywhere a planter has to be carried up several flights. Both hold a convincing stone or terracotta appearance and can be repositioned by one person. Zinc and metal troughs suit a cleaner frontage and cope well with wet winters.
Every planter needs somewhere for water to go. Without drainage, compost stays saturated through a London winter and roots rot; the most common reason a container plant fails. Where a decorative container has no hole, use a removable liner. Raise pots on feet so water drains away rather than pooling and freezing. Use potting compost rather than garden soil.
