Indoor Plants & Houseplants

Our indoor plants collection brings together several hundred house plants, chosen for how they perform indoors in real homes rather than how they photograph. The range runs from compact Peperomia, Pilea and Fittonia for shelves and windowsills to specimen Strelitzia nicolai and Howea forsteriana up to 200cm tall. Shop by genus through our dedicated pages for Anthurium, Calathea, Ficus, Dracaena, Monstera and Hoya, or find the Kentia palm, orchid and bonsai collections. Every plant is selected by our team in Kentish Town with the light, humidity and space of a London home in mind.

About Indoor Plants

Calathea, Ficus and Dracaena are the largest groups in our indoor plants range. Calathea runs from C. ornata and C. crocata to 'Maui Queen' and C. lancifolia; Ficus covers F. lyrata, F. elastica 'Melany' and bonsai-trained F. microcarpa; Dracaena includes D. fragrans 'Janet Craig' and D. marginata. Alongside them sit Anthurium andraeanum 'Royal Zizou', Epipremnum, Philodendron and Hoya carnosa 'Tricolor', with Phalaenopsis orchids and Spathiphyllum for flowers. For collectors, rare and unusual forms include Anthurium veitchii, Alocasia 'Frydek' and Monstera 'Thai Constellation', with palms, cactus and citrus trees such as Citrus × limon 'Meyer' completing the offer.

Plant care starts with light: most tropical foliage plants grow best in bright, indirect light, at 18 to 24°C and with moderate to high humidity. Calathea, Maranta and Alocasia want evenly moist, free-draining compost and rain or filtered water. Ficus, Dracaena and Zamioculcas prefer the top few centimetres to dry between waterings. Sansevieria and Aspidistra tolerate low light conditions far better than variegated forms, which lose colour in shade. Feed with a balanced fertiliser every two to four weeks from spring to early autumn, then water less through winter as growth slows. Repot in spring into pots one size up.

London homes create a specific growing environment: central heating that dries the air from October, north facing rooms with low winter light, and limited floor space in flats and terraced houses. Our team draws on long experience of these conditions to choose indoor plants that thrive in them. Hoya, Peperomia and Epipremnum suit shelves and trailing positions, while Kentia palm and Dracaena fragrans give height on a small footprint. For pet friendly greenery, Calathea, Hoya, Chlorophytum, Peperomia and Kentia palm are non toxic to cats and dogs. Visit Boma Garden Centre to explore our houseplants in store and online.
