Part of the 'Westcountry' series, of Lupins
-
Traditional cottage garden perennial
-
Upright dense spikes of bright retina burning terracotta
-
Bright vibrant red flowers

Part of the long flowering well known 'Westcountry' series, of Lupins. The best orange variety on the market with a long season of interest. Ideal, for containers and planting in mixed borders in your garden. Westcountry lupins have strong, straight, flowering stems that stand proud.
Planting Guide
If you are planting Lupins in the garden, lightly fork over them to loosen the soil. Add in organic matter by digging in some Peat-free John Innes compost. Once the soil is mixed, dig a small hole with a spade and add to the bottom of the planting hole a generous handful of Mycorrhizal fungi. Place the Lupin and back-fill with soil. Make sure you have not buried the plant lower in the ground than it was in the pot. After planting, firm the soil around the plant so the plants' roots are in touch with the garden soil. After planting water thoroughly, make sure the soil is moist but not too wet for the first two weeks.
Plant Care
Winter
Check pots for drainage, so plants are not sitting in stagnant water during a period of prolonged rain over winter as this will cause the roots of the plant to rot.
Spring
As new growth appears from the soil in early spring watch out for snail and slug damage. Apply an early layer of organic slug pellets as a deterrent. If Lupins are being planted in the ground now is the best time to stack early with bamboo canes.
Summer
Lupins are greedy plants and need watering daily in containers or the ground during periods of prolonged heat. Also, feed lupins weekly during the summer months with Maxicrop Seaweed Extract mixed with water in a watering can. Check weekly for deadheading, removing spent flowering stems to prolong the flowering season.
Autumn
In late autumn cut back foliage and flower stems to just above ground level.
