Quick Guide

  • Winter flowers when few others bloom
  • Evergreen foliage for year-round colour
  • Thrives in partial and full shade
  • Hardy UK perennial; easy to grow
  • Colours and forms vary in mixes

Helleborus are hardy woodland perennials that flower reliably from December through spring, when most other plants are still dormant. Each plant produces distinctive downward-facing blooms with subtle colours and delicate veining. The evergreen foliage is equally valuable, providing handsome green cover all year and developing bold texture in established specimens.

Hellebores are notably low-maintenance once settled. Plant in partial or dappled shade in fertile, well-drained soil that stays moist but never waterlogged. They dislike being moved, so choose a permanent spot before planting. Once established, they are remarkably drought-tolerant and need little feeding or pruning, though removing old leaves in late winter will enhance the flowers.

These are woodland plants suited to shaded borders, beneath deciduous trees or in containers on a shady patio. Because this is a mix, the plant you receive may differ in colour and form from the picture, which is illustrative. Helleborus mixes vary between batches.

The picture is an illustration. Mixes vary from batch to batch, so the colour and form of the plant you receive may differ from the one shown.

Plant Guide

Plant out in autumn or spring in a spot where they won't be moved. Choose partial shade beneath trees or a shaded border with plenty of humus-rich soil. Water well in the first growing season and during dry spells. Apply a mulch of well-rotted compost in spring. In late winter, cut back old leaves to display the emerging flowers. Established plants need little attention and reward neglect with reliable winter blooms.

Third-Party Couriers

For London postcodes outside a 5-mile radius of our Kentish Town garden centre, we may occasionally use a third-party courier for delivery. In these cases, we try our best to still deliver the items in the requested delivery time slot but please be aware that occasionally this may not always be possible and is out of our control.

Delivery Discrepancies

Please check your order as soon as it arrives. If there is any discrepancy — such as a missing, incorrect, or damaged item — please contact us within 48 hours of delivery so we can put things right. Returns Policy

If you need to return an item, please contact us within 14 days of receipt to arrange a return or exchange. Products must be in their original condition and packaging. Plants may be non-refundable unless they arrive damaged or defective.

Items bought in-store or collected can be returned directly at the garden centre. If you would like us to collect a return and it is in good condition (e.g. you have changed your mind), it must be in its original condition, and the same delivery cost will apply for the return.

Plants marked as reduced for end-of-season clearance are non-refundable, as they are sold specifically to clear stock. This does not apply to special offers or multibuy promotions, which are eligible for returns as per our standard terms.
