Quick Guide

  • Delicate mid-pink flowers autumn to spring
  • Compact evergreen with dark green foliage
  • Ideal for cool conservatories and windowsills
  • Non-toxic to cats and dogs
  • Long-lasting seasonal indoor display

Erica gracilis, known as Cape Heath or All Saints' Heather, is a compact evergreen shrub from South Africa, prized for its abundant bell-shaped flowers that bloom from autumn through spring. The plant features tiny linear dark green leaves and produces thousands of delicate pink flowers—typically 3mm urn-shaped blooms in mid-pink shades.

This tender houseplant is not frost-hardy and is best grown indoors in a cool room, bright windowsill, or conservatory where temperatures remain between 7–12°C. It thrives in bright, indirect light and prefers acidic, well-drained soil with consistent but moderate watering. Critically, use rainwater or purified water rather than tap water, as the plant cannot tolerate mineral salts and chemicals. Keep the soil moist but never waterlogged to prevent root rot.

Erica gracilis is particularly popular in Europe for seasonal decoration during autumn and winter, especially around All Souls' and All Saints' Days. The flowering display lasts many weeks. After flowering finishes, prune lightly if desired to maintain shape.

The plant is safe for both cats and dogs, making it a pet-friendly choice for households with animals.

Plant Guide

Position in bright, indirect light in a cool location at 7–12°C; temperatures above 15°C reduce flower longevity. Water moderately with rainwater or purified water when the soil begins to dry out; overwatering and tap water salts cause root rot. Keep humidity moderate to high. Feed sparingly with a dilute, ericaceous houseplant feed during the growing season; excessive feed is harmful. Once flowering finishes, light pruning may be carried out to maintain a compact shape. Erica gracilis will not survive freezing and must never be exposed to frost. Ensure good air circulation to prevent pest problems.

Third-Party Couriers

For London postcodes outside a 5-mile radius of our Kentish Town garden centre, we may occasionally use a third-party courier for delivery. In these cases, we try our best to still deliver the items in the requested delivery time slot but please be aware that occasionally this may not always be possible and is out of our control.

Delivery Discrepancies

Please check your order as soon as it arrives. If there is any discrepancy — such as a missing, incorrect, or damaged item — please contact us within 48 hours of delivery so we can put things right. Returns Policy

If you need to return an item, please contact us within 14 days of receipt to arrange a return or exchange. Products must be in their original condition and packaging. Plants may be non-refundable unless they arrive damaged or defective.

Items bought in-store or collected can be returned directly at the garden centre. If you would like us to collect a return and it is in good condition (e.g. you have changed your mind), it must be in its original condition, and the same delivery cost will apply for the return.

Plants marked as reduced for end-of-season clearance are non-refundable, as they are sold specifically to clear stock. This does not apply to special offers or multibuy promotions, which are eligible for returns as per our standard terms.
