Quick Guide

  • Creamy white blooms tinged with pink

  • Strong, sweet fruity fragrance

  • Repeat flowering until late season

  • Ideal for large structures

  • Suitable for all soil types

Introduced by Schwartz in 1879, Rosa 'Mme. Alfred Carrière' is a majestic climbing rose that has stood the test of time with its elegant, cupped, creamy white flowers that are delicately tinged with pink. This variety is cherished for its strong, sweet, and fruity fragrance and its ability to repeat flower from June/July until late in the season, ensuring a garden full of beauty and scent for many months. The growth is strong, bushy, and upright, featuring plentiful foliage. While the stems are rather stiff, with careful training, they can be encouraged to create a graceful display, making it an excellent choice for covering large structures, including arbours, pergolas, and even into large trees. 'Mme. Alfred Carrière' thrives in a variety of conditions, from full sun to partial shade, and is adaptable to all soil types, making it a versatile addition to any garden.

Plant Care Guide

'Mme. Alfred Carrière' requires a sunny to partially shaded spot in the garden to flourish. It is remarkably adaptable, thriving in all soil types, provided they are well-drained. Regular watering, especially during dry spells, and feeding with a rose-specific fertiliser in early spring and midsummer will encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering. Pruning should be done in late winter or early spring to remove dead or weak stems and to shape the plant, promoting healthy growth and airflow. Although it is a robust climber, support from trellises or frameworks will help manage its size and shape, allowing for a spectacular floral display.

Third-Party Couriers

For London postcodes outside a 5-mile radius of our Kentish Town garden centre, we may occasionally use a third-party courier for delivery. In these cases, we try our best to still deliver the items in the requested delivery time slot but please be aware that occasionally this may not always be possible and is out of our control.

Delivery Discrepancies

Please check your order as soon as it arrives. If there is any discrepancy — such as a missing, incorrect, or damaged item — please contact us within 48 hours of delivery so we can put things right. Returns Policy

If you need to return an item, please contact us within 14 days of receipt to arrange a return or exchange. Products must be in their original condition and packaging. Plants may be non-refundable unless they arrive damaged or defective.

Items bought in-store or collected can be returned directly at the garden centre. If you would like us to collect a return and it is in good condition (e.g. you have changed your mind), it must be in its original condition, and the same delivery cost will apply for the return.

Plants marked as reduced for end-of-season clearance are non-refundable, as they are sold specifically to clear stock. This does not apply to special offers or multibuy promotions, which are eligible for returns as per our standard terms.

David Austin Roses are hand-grown, which has been the way since the company's inception. Expert rose cultivators hand-bud the plants using traditional and specific methods each year.

Setting out to create beautiful breeds of roses in the early 1950s, David Austin spent decades raising award-winning specimens that has become an art as much as a science.

Many of the beautiful blooms have wonderful fragrances, grown in the form of shrubs climbers and hybrids.

No brand beats the excellence of David Austin roses for sheer beauty, vitality and fragrance.
