Quick Guide

  • Spectacular lime-green to pink panicles, July to October

  • RHS Award of Garden Merit — proven UK performer

  • Thrives in full sun or partial shade

  • Hardy to H5; tolerates most UK soils

  • Prune hard in late winter for best blooms

  •

Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight' is one of the most celebrated panicle hydrangeas in British gardens. Bred in the Netherlands and awarded the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, this vigorous deciduous shrub produces enormous conical flowerheads — up to 30 cm long — that deliver a colour show lasting from midsummer well into autumn.

Flowers open in a distinctive pale lime green in July, gradually fading through creamy white before developing warm pink and rose tones as temperatures cool in September and October. Even after the petals fade, the dried papery flowerheads persist on stiff stems through winter, adding structural interest long after other shrubs have gone bare.

'Limelight' is remarkably adaptable. It grows in full sun or partial shade in most UK gardens, tolerating clay, loam, and sandy soils across acid, neutral, or alkaline pH. One essential requirement is consistent moisture — in a sunny spot, keep the soil reliably moist and mulch generously each spring. Rated RHS H5, it is hardy throughout most of the British Isles in severe winters.

Perfect as a focal-point shrub in a mixed border, as a specimen in a generous container, or grouped for a dramatic late-season display. 'Limelight' pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses and late-flowering perennials. See the Burncoose Nurseries listing for further cultivation detail.

Growing Guide

Plant in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Mulch around the base each spring to retain moisture. For the best flowering, prune hard in late winter or early spring, cutting the previous season's stems back to within a few buds of the permanent woody framework. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring. Avoid waterlogged conditions. Container-grown plants need regular watering throughout the growing season.

Third-Party Couriers

For London postcodes outside a 5-mile radius of our Kentish Town garden centre, we may occasionally use a third-party courier for delivery. In these cases, we try our best to still deliver the items in the requested delivery time slot but please be aware that occasionally this may not always be possible and is out of our control.

Delivery Discrepancies

Please check your order as soon as it arrives. If there is any discrepancy — such as a missing, incorrect, or damaged item — please contact us within 48 hours of delivery so we can put things right. Returns Policy

If you need to return an item, please contact us within 14 days of receipt to arrange a return or exchange. Products must be in their original condition and packaging. Plants may be non-refundable unless they arrive damaged or defective.

Items bought in-store or collected can be returned directly at the garden centre. If you would like us to collect a return and it is in good condition (e.g. you have changed your mind), it must be in its original condition, and the same delivery cost will apply for the return.

Plants marked as reduced for end-of-season clearance are non-refundable, as they are sold specifically to clear stock. This does not apply to special offers or multibuy promotions, which are eligible for returns as per our standard terms.
