Quick Guide
- Compact mounded habit — 60–80cm tall and wide
- Flowers shift from lime green through white to bright pink
- Stunning orange-red autumn foliage as a bonus
- Blooms on new wood — easy spring prune
- Proven Winners® selection for reliable performance
Hydrangea paniculata 'Fire Light Tiny Bit' brings the dramatic colour-changing spectacle of the famous Fire Light series to the smallest of gardens. Selected for the Proven Winners® programme and bred by Timothy Wood at Spring Meadow Nursery in the USA, this compact cultivar delivers all the wow factor of its larger parent in a neat, mounded plant around 60–80 cm tall and wide.
Flowering begins in early summer with large, lush panicles in fresh lime green. These gradually open to creamy white before taking on increasingly bold pink tones through mid-summer. By autumn, the flowerheads deepen to bright pink with red shades, giving the plant an almost fire-like appearance that earns its name.
As the flowers fade, the foliage delivers a second act — vivid orange-red autumn leaves that make this one of the most visually rewarding compact shrubs of the season.
'Fire Light Tiny Bit' blooms on new wood, meaning a simple hard prune in early spring is all that is needed to reset the plant. Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. For cultural guidance, see the Proven Winners plant profile for Fire Light Tidbit®.
Planting & Care Guide
Plant in spring or autumn in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun to partial shade. Water regularly in the first season. In early spring, prune all stems back to 20–30 cm to encourage vigorous new flowering shoots. Mulch around the base to retain moisture. Suitable for containers using a loam-based compost with added grit. Dried flowerheads provide attractive winter structure — leave in place until pruning time.
