Quick Guide
- Sweet, powerful fragrance from dense flower spikes
- Colours include white, pink, purple, red, blue and yellow
- Plant bulbs in autumn for spring flowering
- Thrives in full sun or partial shade
- Toxic to cats and dogs—keep bulbs out of reach
Hyacinth bulbs produce spikes of tightly packed, sweetly scented flowers. This is a mixed batch—colours vary between individual plants, so your hyacinth may be white, pink, purple, red, blue, yellow or peach. Each bulb is an illustration of the type; the actual colour and form supplied will vary because mixes differ between seasons.
Plant bulbs 4 inches deep in autumn, 6–8 weeks before your first hard frost. They need well-drained, neutral soil and full sun or partial shade. Water sparingly to avoid rot. Flowers appear in early spring and are long-lasting, with a distinctive fragrance that is strongest on sunny days.
Important: all parts of hyacinth, especially bulbs, are toxic to cats and dogs. Keep bulbs out of reach, particularly when planting.
Plant Guide
Plant bulbs in autumn, 4 inches deep and 3 inches apart in loose, well-drained soil. After winter chilling, shoots emerge in early spring with fragrant flower spikes in March–April. Keep soil slightly moist through winter, but allow it to dry between waterings to prevent rot. Once flowering finishes, allow leaves to die back naturally before removing bulbs. Hyacinths are hardy to H5 and can be replanted annually or left in the ground to naturalise.
