Quick Guide

  • Compact evergreen with neat, rounded growth habit
  • White flower clusters; July to September blooms
  • Hardy to H4; drought tolerant when established
  • Full sun or partial shade; attracts pollinators
  • Ideal for hedges, screens and garden borders

Hebe 'New Zealand' is a compact, bushy evergreen shrub with a neat, dense habit that reaches around 1m high and wide. The small, leathery dark green leaves develop bright yellow-green margins on new growth, providing year-round interest. Small white flowers appear in clusters from July to September, attracting bees and other pollinators.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil that is neutral to slightly alkaline. Once established, this hardy shrub is drought tolerant and requires minimal pruning. Ideal for hedging, screening, borders or gravel gardens. Hardy to H4, it will thrive throughout most of the UK, though shelter from severe winter winds is beneficial in colder areas.

Plant Guide

Plant in spring or autumn in a sunny or partially shaded spot, sheltered from drying winter winds. Dig a planting hole, backfill with soil, and water well. Space plants 60–90cm apart for hedging. Water regularly during the first year to establish a deep root system. Once established, this shrub is drought tolerant and needs little attention. Prune lightly in spring if needed to maintain shape. In areas with harsh winters, provide shelter or a light mulch around the base. No regular feeding is required; it prefers poor to moderately fertile soil.

For London postcodes outside a 5-mile radius of our Kentish Town garden centre, we may occasionally use a third-party courier for delivery. In these cases, we try our best to still deliver the items in the requested delivery time slot but please be aware that occasionally this may not always be possible and is out of our control.

Items bought in-store or collected can be returned directly at the garden centre. If you would like us to collect a return and it is in good condition (e.g. you have changed your mind), it must be in its original condition, and the same delivery cost will apply for the return.

Plants marked as reduced for end-of-season clearance are non-refundable, as they are sold specifically to clear stock. This does not apply to special offers or multibuy promotions, which are eligible for returns as per our standard terms.
