Foeniculum vulgare ‘Purpureum’, commonly known as Green Fennel, is a versatile and attractive herb that serves both culinary and ornamental purposes. This perennial herb is characterized by its feathery green foliage and vibrant yellow flower umbels that bloom from midsummer to autumn. The aromatic leaves and seeds are widely used in cooking to add a licorice-like flavor to dishes. In the garden, Green Fennel acts as a magnet for pollinators and beneficial insects, enhancing the biodiversity of your outdoor space. Its tall, graceful form reaches up to 180-200 cm, making it an excellent choice for adding height and texture to herb gardens, borders, and mixed plantings. Hardy and low maintenance, Green Fennel thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it an easy addition to any garden.

Planting Guide

Plant Foeniculum vulgare ‘Purpureum’ in well-drained soil and a sunny location. This herb prefers a position that receives full sun for optimal growth and flavor development. Regular watering is necessary, especially during dry spells, to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to promote healthy growth and abundant flowering. To encourage bushier growth, you can pinch back the stems in early summer. After the flowering period, cut back the plant to encourage fresh growth and prevent self-seeding. Fennel is generally pest and disease resistant, making it a low-maintenance choice for gardeners.

Please check your order as soon as it arrives. If there is any discrepancy — such as a missing, incorrect, or damaged item — please contact us within 48 hours of delivery so we can put things right. Returns Policy

If you need to return an item, please contact us within 14 days of receipt to arrange a return or exchange. Products must be in their original condition and packaging. Plants may be non-refundable unless they arrive damaged or defective.

Items bought in-store or collected can be returned directly at the garden centre. If you would like us to collect a return and it is in good condition (e.g. you have changed your mind), it must be in its original condition, and the same delivery cost will apply for the return.

Plants marked as reduced for end-of-season clearance are non-refundable, as they are sold specifically to clear stock. This does not apply to special offers or multibuy promotions, which are eligible for returns as per our standard terms.
