A brand new variety of clump-forming Fargesia Bamboo to the UK
A very resilient clump-forming bamboo will thrive in a container or the soil. This variety will cope in full sun or partial shade in the garden. The new growth and stems have a bluish tinge hence the name 'Blue Lizard'.
Once established in the garden, Blue Lizard will provide a sea of green foliage and bluish tinged stems. The stems will reach a height of up to 4 meters once established.
Fargesia murielae 'Blue Lizard' does not form rhizomes, which means that a rhizome barrier is unnecessary.
Suitable for all locations and all types of soils, including chalky soils.
Plant Care
If you are planting a Fargesia in the garden, lightly fork over it to loosen the soil. Add in organic matter by digging in some Peat-free John Innes compost. Once the soil is mixed, dig a small hole with a spade and add a generous handful of Mycorrhizal fungi to the bottom of the planting hole. Place the Fargesia plant and back-fill with soil. Make sure you have not buried the plant lower in the ground than it was in the pot. After planting, firm the soil around the plant so the plant's roots are in touch with the garden soil. After planting, water thoroughly. Ensure the soil is moist but not too wet for the first two weeks.
Spring: Remove and cut out untidy foliage and leaves. If pruning to thin out the stems, always cut stems back to ground level. To see the attractive bamboo stems remove lower leaves from the branches in early spring.
Autumn: Thin out older stems, then cut them back to the base of the plant in late autumn.
