The Fortunella margarita, commonly known as Limequat, is a delightful citrus plant that brings a touch of exotic beauty to any space. It features vibrant green leaves and produces small, lime-like fruits which add a splash of colour and a fresh, citrus scent to your home. Perfect for UK homes, it thrives both indoors and outdoors, making it a versatile addition to your plant collection.

The Citrus × limonia, commonly known as the Red Lime, is a captivating and unusual citrus plant that adds a unique twist to any UK home or garden. This plant is admired for its lush green foliage and the stunning contrast of its deep red limes, which are both decorative and edible. Ideal for placing in a sunny conservatory, on a patio, or in a bright kitchen, the Red Lime plant is a conversation starter and a delightful addition to any space.

The aesthetic appeal of the Red Lime is undeniable. Its richly coloured fruits stand out against the dark green leaves, creating a vibrant display. When considering complementary plants, it pairs well with other citrus varieties or Mediterranean plants like jasmine or bougainvillea for a stunning visual impact.

This plant typically reaches an ultimate height and spread of approximately 60-70 cm, perfect for container growing in smaller spaces. Regular pruning is recommended to maintain its shape and encourage fruiting. The Red Lime is primarily a foliage plant, but its small, fragrant white flowers add an extra layer of beauty.

In terms of air purification, the Red Lime plant is a great addition to the home, contributing to a cleaner and fresher indoor environment.

Plant Care Guide

Caring for the Red Lime is straightforward. It prefers a well-draining soil mix, ideally formulated for citrus plants. Water the plant regularly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Misting the leaves can help maintain humidity levels, especially if kept indoors. The Red Lime enjoys bright, indirect sunlight and should be protected from cold drafts and severe temperature fluctuations. Feed it with a citrus-specific fertilizer every few weeks during the growing season to encourage healthy growth and fruit production.
