Quick Guide
- Fine-textured, evergreen ornamental sedge
- Bright orange tips, bronze in winter
- Compact mound; full sun to partial shade
- Hardy, low-maintenance, drought-tolerant once established
- Perfect for containers, borders, architectural interest
This evergreen sedge brings year-round architectural interest with fine, hair-like foliage that transforms with the seasons. Bright green strap-like leaves are tipped with vibrant orange in summer, deepening to rich bronze in autumn and winter. The colour intensifies in full sun, creating striking contrast in borders and containers throughout the year.
Prairie Fire forms a compact, dense mound of 40-60cm in height and spread. Summer brings subtle brown flower spikes adding texture and interest. The plant is dense and tufted, creating a sculptural quality that works beautifully in contemporary and cottage gardens alike.
Plant in full sun or light shade in moist, well-drained soil. It tolerates chalk, clay, loam and sandy soils and is exceptionally drought-tolerant once established. The plant prefers not to be waterlogged in winter but thrives in varied conditions.
Maintain by combing out dead foliage in late winter or early spring with your fingers or a rake. It can be cut back by half from April to July if needed. Generally pest and disease-free, this is a genuinely low-maintenance plant that rewards you with colour and interest year after year.
Plant Guide
Plant in full sun or light shade in well-drained, moist (not waterlogged) soil; it tolerates chalk, clay, loam and sand. Once established, it's very drought-tolerant and generally pest-free. In late winter or early spring, comb through with your fingers or a fine rake to remove dead foliage. Can be cut back by half from April to July if desired. Reaches 40-60cm at maturity in 2-5 years. It cannot tolerate excessive winter wetness, so ensure good drainage. No feeding needed; an easy, low-maintenance addition to any garden.
