Quick Guide

  • Stunning patterned lime-green foliage

  • Contrasting pink-purple leaf undersides

  • Ideal for bright, indirect light

  • Excellent for modern interiors

  • Pet-friendly tropical houseplant

  • Plant pot cover not included (optional)

Calathea ‘Flame Star’ is a striking tropical houseplant prized for its bold, patterned foliage and elegant upright form. Its leaves feature deep green edges, feathered lime-green centres, and soft pink-purple undersides that create a beautiful two-tone effect as the plant moves naturally throughout the day. This Calathea belongs to the Marantaceae family, commonly known as “Prayer Plants,” named for their rhythmic leaf movements in response to light — a gentle, calming presence in any interior.

Perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, and home offices, Calathea ‘Flame Star’ thrives in bright, indirect light and high humidity. Its sculptural form pairs well with soft, contemporary décor and looks exceptional when positioned on sideboards, shelves, or plant stands. For companion plants, it complements ferns, Fittonias, Philodendron ‘Brasil’, Peperomia, and other moisture-loving foliage plants.

As a non-toxic and pet-friendly variety, it’s a safe choice for homes with cats or dogs. Calatheas are naturally efficient at improving indoor air quality by filtering pollutants and increasing oxygen, adding functional value alongside beauty.

Expect a mature height and spread of around 60–80 cm. Trimming is simple: remove any yellowing or damaged leaves at the base to maintain shape and encourage fresh growth. With the right care, Calathea ‘Flame Star’ remains vibrant, lush, and full-leafed all year round.

Plant Care Guide

Place your Calathea ‘Flame Star’ in bright, indirect light and keep it away from direct sun, cold drafts, and sudden temperature changes. Water with filtered or rested tap water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Maintain evenly moist soil, but avoid waterlogging. Mist the leaves regularly or use a humidity tray to keep humidity high. Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser.

Check the underside of leaves occasionally for pests such as spider mites, and wipe with a damp cloth if dust builds up. Tools you may need include a watering can with a narrow spout, clean pruning scissors, and a spray mister.

Third-Party Couriers

For London postcodes outside a 5-mile radius of our Kentish Town garden centre, we may occasionally use a third-party courier for delivery. In these cases, we try our best to still deliver the items in the requested delivery time slot but please be aware that occasionally this may not always be possible and is out of our control.

Delivery Discrepancies

Please check your order as soon as it arrives. If there is any discrepancy — such as a missing, incorrect, or damaged item — please contact us within 48 hours of delivery so we can put things right. Returns Policy

If you need to return an item, please contact us within 14 days of receipt to arrange a return or exchange. Products must be in their original condition and packaging. Plants may be non-refundable unless they arrive damaged or defective.

Items bought in-store or collected can be returned directly at the garden centre. If you would like us to collect a return and it is in good condition (e.g. you have changed your mind), it must be in its original condition, and the same delivery cost will apply for the return.

Plants marked as reduced for end-of-season clearance are non-refundable, as they are sold specifically to clear stock. This does not apply to special offers or multibuy promotions, which are eligible for returns as per our standard terms.
