Quick Guide
We plant each one to match the photo as closely as we can. If a plant or pot isn't available, we'll swap in a close match so the overall look is the same.
- Magenta cyclamen, double daisies and corkscrew rush
- Curry plant, thyme and variegated ivy too
- Rattan hanging basket with a natural look
- Corkscrew rush twists up for height
- Silver curry plant smells of curry when brushed
- Hang by a front door, gate or wall
- Use a strong bracket and check watering often
Corkscrew rush is the plant people stop to look at: green stems that twist and curl like a stretched spring. It gives height to this rattan hanging basket, with a magenta cyclamen at the centre, its swept-back petals a neat echo of the rush's curls.
Double daisies add rounded pompom flowers, and silver curry plant brings fine leaves that smell of curry when you brush them. Thyme fills the gaps with small aromatic leaves, and variegated ivy falls over the rattan.
Hung beside a front door or on a garden wall, it sits at eye level, where the detail is easy to enjoy. Two, hung either side of a door, frame it nicely. The foliage keeps the basket looking full when the flowers slow down in colder weather. Hand-planted to order at Boma in Kentish Town.
Plant Care
Hang it on a strong bracket in a bright, sheltered spot. Baskets dry out more quickly than pots, especially in wind, so check the compost often and water when it feels dry, aiming at the compost rather than the leaves and flowers. The rush likes more moisture than the curry plant and thyme, so don't let the basket dry out completely or stay soggy. Remove faded flowers and yellowing cyclamen leaves. Skip feeding over winter. In a hard frost, take it down and shelter it in a porch or cover it with fleece.
