Narcissus canaliculatus is a charming miniature daffodil producing generous clusters of small, star-shaped white flowers, each finished with a neat, golden-yellow central cup. Unlike larger daffodil varieties, this species offers a finer, more natural look, with multiple blooms held on each stem, creating a soft, meadow-like effect.
Its compact size makes it particularly well suited to containers, where its abundance of flowers creates strong visual impact without overwhelming the planting. In borders, it weaves beautifully between perennials and other spring bulbs, adding brightness and movement at ground level. The crisp white petals pair effortlessly with pale blues, soft purples, and fresh greens, making it an easy companion for muscari, violas, forget-me-nots, and early tulips.
This variety is ideal for gardeners seeking a refined, naturalistic spring display that feels light, fresh, and full of seasonal energy.
Plant Care Guide
Narcissus canaliculatus grows best in full sun to partial shade. When planting out from pots, choose a free-draining position in the garden or a container with drainage holes. For planters, select a suitable container from Boma’s garden pots and planters range and use bulb fibre compost, such as Miracle-Gro Bulb Fibre, to support healthy root growth and flowering.
Water after planting and keep compost lightly moist during active growth, avoiding prolonged wet conditions. Feed lightly in spring using a balanced liquid feed from Boma’s plant food range. Remove spent flowers once faded, but allow foliage to die back naturally to strengthen the bulbs for future seasons.
This narcissus looks particularly effective placed near muscari, crocus, or pale tulips for a soft, layered spring look. Watch for slugs in damp conditions, especially when pots are placed at ground level. If planting out after flowering, a hand trowel or hand fork is useful for preparing free-draining soil.
