Lavatera x clementii ‘Ruby Star’, commonly known as Ruby Star Tree Mallow, is a striking deciduous shrub renowned for its profusion of vibrant ruby-red flowers. Blooming from early summer through autumn, ‘Ruby Star’ provides a long-lasting display of color that enlivens borders, mixed beds, and cottage-style gardens. The fast-growing, bushy habit of this Lavatera makes it an excellent choice for adding height and structure to garden designs.

The large, hibiscus-like flowers of ‘Ruby Star’ are complemented by its attractive, deeply lobed green foliage. This hardy shrub thrives in the UK climate and is particularly well-suited to sunny garden locations. It pairs beautifully with other summer-flowering perennials, creating a dynamic and visually appealing garden display. The vibrant blooms are also a magnet for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it a valuable addition to any wildlife-friendly garden.

Plant Care Guide

Lavatera x clementii ‘Ruby Star’ thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil. It is drought-tolerant once established, requiring minimal watering except during prolonged dry spells. To maintain a compact shape and encourage prolific flowering, prune back hard in early spring before new growth begins. Applying a layer of mulch around the base of the plant can help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. This low-maintenance plant is suitable for gardeners of all experience levels, providing a stunning and enduring display with minimal effort.
