Quick Guide

  • Intense ruby-red flower spikes with densely packed florets

  • Strong, classic hyacinth fragrance for early spring interest

  • Compact growth ideal for pots, patios, and borders

  • Excellent colour depth for bold, dramatic spring displays

  • Reliable early-spring performer with high visual impact

Hyacinthus ‘Red Diamond’ is a striking hyacinth variety celebrated for its deep, jewel-toned red flowers and powerful spring presence. Each upright spike is densely packed with richly coloured, star-shaped florets, creating a bold, sculptural form that stands out beautifully in containers and garden borders. The colour is saturated and luxurious, bringing warmth and drama to early spring planting schemes.

This variety is also prized for its strong, unmistakable fragrance, which carries well in mild weather. Positioned near doorways, paths, or seating areas, ‘Red Diamond’ delivers both colour and scent at close range. In pots, it creates an immediate focal point and works particularly well when paired with softer companions such as pale narcissi, blush tulips, or fresh green foliage, allowing its rich red tones to shine.

In borders, ‘Red Diamond’ adds early structure and intensity, providing a confident splash of colour just as the garden begins to wake from winter.

Plant Care

Hyacinthus ‘Red Diamond’ grows best in full sun to light partial shade. When planting out from pots, choose a free-draining position in the garden or a container with good drainage holes. For planters, select a suitable pot from Boma’s garden pots and planters range and use bulb fibre compost, such as Miracle-Gro Bulb Fibre, to support healthy root development and flowering.

Water thoroughly after planting and keep compost lightly moist during growth, avoiding waterlogging. Feed lightly in spring with a balanced liquid feed from Boma’s plant food range. Remove spent flower heads once faded, but allow foliage to die back naturally to replenish the bulb for the following year.

‘Red Diamond’ looks particularly effective placed near other spring pots or borders featuring white, pink, or purple bulbs for contrast. Watch for slugs during early growth, especially in damp conditions. If planting out after flowering, a hand trowel or hand fork is useful for preparing free-draining soil.
