Quick Guide

  • Rich crimson flowers from summer to autumn
  • Vigorous climber reaching 2.5-4 metres high
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner
  • Full sun or partial shade required
  • Hard prune in spring for best flowers

This vigorous clematis produces rich crimson flowers measuring 9-15cm across, each with contrasting creamy-yellow stamens, flowering freely from summer through early autumn. The flowers appear on new growth, making this a reliable performer even after hard pruning. The vine reaches 2.5-4 metres tall with a 1-1.5 metre spread, maturing over 2-5 years.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. The cultivar tolerates chalk, clay, loam and sandy soils with alkaline or neutral pH. Plant the crown 5-8cm deep to encourage shoots from below ground level, and shade the roots with other plants or pebbles to keep them cool. As a pruning group 3 clematis, cut hard back in spring before growth begins.

Watch for aphids, snails and caterpillars; earwigs may damage petals. The plant can be susceptible to clematis wilt and honey fungus, though the latter is rare. An RHS Award of Garden Merit winner, perfect for cottage gardens, patios, city gardens and wall borders.

Plant Guide

Plant in spring or autumn with the crown 5-8cm deep. Position in full sun to partial shade. Water well after planting and during dry spells. In spring, prune hard back to 30-60cm above ground level before new growth emerges. Tie in new shoots as they develop. Feed fortnightly during the growing season with a potash-rich feed to encourage flowering. Remove dead wood in winter.

Third-Party Couriers

For London postcodes outside a 5-mile radius of our Kentish Town garden centre, we may occasionally use a third-party courier for delivery. In these cases, we try our best to still deliver the items in the requested delivery time slot but please be aware that occasionally this may not always be possible and is out of our control.

Please check your order as soon as it arrives. If there is any discrepancy — such as a missing, incorrect, or damaged item — please contact us within 48 hours of delivery so we can put things right. Items bought in-store or collected can be returned directly at the garden centre. If you would like us to collect a return and it is in good condition (e.g. you have changed your mind), it must be in its original condition, and the same delivery cost will apply for the return.

Plants marked as reduced for end-of-season clearance are non-refundable, as they are sold specifically to clear stock. This does not apply to special offers or multibuy promotions, which are eligible for returns as per our standard terms.
