Quick Guide

  • Compact umbrella-leaf form

  • Air-purifying indoor foliage

  • Easy, low-maintenance houseplant

  • Thrives in bright, indirect light

  • Ideal for living rooms or offices

Schefflera arboricola ‘Melanie’, commonly known as the Dwarf Umbrella Plant ‘Melanie’, is a beautifully compact indoor foliage plant admired for its neat umbrella-shaped leaf clusters and rich, glossy green colour. Smaller and more refined than the standard Schefflera, ‘Melanie’ is an excellent choice for modern interiors where a tidy, architectural look is preferred.

Its naturally bushy form creates an elegant silhouette that suits shelves, side tables, plant stands and bright office spaces. The foliage is evergreen, maintaining year-round vibrancy and bringing a sense of calm and freshness to any room. Like many Schefflera, it has air-purifying qualities, helping to remove indoor pollutants and improve ambient air quality—making it both decorative and functional.

‘Melanie’ can reach around 60–100 cm in height over several years, with a moderate spread, and can be shaped with occasional light pruning. Complementary pairing plants include Zamioculcas (ZZ Plant), Dracaena, Monstera deliciosa, or Ficus elastica, all of which echo the clean, sculptural aesthetic.

This is an ideal choice for plant lovers seeking a well-behaved, evergreen, low-effort indoor plant that adapts well to contemporary living environments.

Plant Care Guide

Place Schefflera ‘Melanie’ in bright, indirect light; it tolerates light shade but avoids direct midday sun. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Ensure excess water drains away to prevent root rot. Mist lightly in warm rooms to boost humidity, and wipe leaves occasionally to keep them glossy. Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. Keep away from cold draughts, sudden temperature drops and heat sources. Watch for common pests such as spider mite and scale; treat promptly if spotted. Repot every 1–2 years in a well-draining indoor potting mix.

For a stylish finish, place the plant in a contemporary Elho cover pot, or choose a ceramic or woven basket for a softer, natural look.

Third-Party Couriers

For London postcodes outside a 5-mile radius of our Kentish Town garden centre, we may occasionally use a third-party courier for delivery. In these cases, we try our best to still deliver the items in the requested delivery time slot but please be aware that occasionally this may not always be possible and is out of our control.

Delivery Discrepancies

Please check your order as soon as it arrives. If there is any discrepancy — such as a missing, incorrect, or damaged item — please contact us within 48 hours of delivery so we can put things right. After this time, we will assume the order was received complete and in good condition. We are unable to take responsibility for damage that has occurred after this period.

Click & Collect

We encourage you to collect from our garden centre in Kentish Town — it saves on delivery costs and gives you the chance to see our full range of plants and products in person.

Returns Policy

If you need to return an item, please contact us within 14 days of receipt to arrange a return or exchange. Products must be in their original condition and packaging. Plants may be non-refundable unless they arrive damaged or defective.

Items bought in-store or collected can be returned directly at the garden centre. If you would like us to collect a return and it is in good condition (e.g. you have changed your mind), it must be in its original condition, and the same delivery cost will apply for the return.

Plants marked as reduced for end-of-season clearance are non-refundable, as they are sold specifically to clear stock. This does not apply to special offers or multibuy promotions, which are eligible for returns as per our standard terms.
