Christmas Rose (Hellebores) is often associated with Hellebores from a legend that the plant sprang from the snow from a young girl's tears. Hellebores are prevalent during the winter, especially during the festive season. About Christmas Rose

Christmas Rose (Hellebores) is the traditional white flower variety Helleborus niger, from a legend that the plant sprang from the snow from a young girl’s tears, unable to offer a gift for the newborn Christ in Bethlehem.

Hellebore, over the years, has become a prevalent plant during the winter season, especially during the festive season. Hellebores are now available in a range of colourful varieties, with the upward facing flowers. 

Combining Christmas Rose with evergreens such as Ajuga, Festuca or Carex delivers contrasting colours that last from autumn through to spring.

Winter gardens look wonderful with Hellebore, ideal for a shady spot in moist soil conditions. If you plant them with dogwood (Cornus) it will create a vibrant display. Christmas Rose is perfect for containers near a doorway or on a patio, planted with Blue Grass (Festuca) in containers for an eye-catching display. As a perennial, Christmas Rose spreads, producing more flowers each year.       

As woodland plants, Hellebores thrive in the sun, making them ideal plants for a pot on a balcony giving months of blooms.
